Overview
Set in the Jungfrau region of the Bernese Oberland, the quaint and quiet village of Mürren enjoys breathtaking views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau peaks. Mürren is an old Walser settlement, established by the Lötscher (people from the Walser valley) who came to the area over the Wetter gap. The fact is reflected in the small wooden houses still scattered throughout the village.
Today Mürren enjoys an international reputation thanks to the famous Schiltorn peak, complete with rotating restaurant, which was featured in the James Bond movie On Her Majesty’s Secret Service and which remains in the public eye today.
Car-free and sun-drenched, Mürren offers a huge range of sports and quiet retreats. Together with the neighbouring villages, including Grindelwald and Wengen, it gives access to the Jungfrau ski area, which includes some 206km of pistes to satisfy all levels as well as a number of long, attractive sledging trails.
